Chicago’s drill music community is mourning the death of up-and-coming rapper BloodHound Q50, who was fatally shot in an apparent ambush at a gas station in the city’s Fuller Park neighborhood early Sunday morning.
The performer, whose birth name was Mikquale Cooper, was 22 years old.
According to a preliminary Chicago Police Department report, more than 50 shots were fired during the attack at a BP gas station on South Wentworth Avenue. Police said six gunmen, traveling in two separate vehicles, targeted Cooper shortly before 4 a.m.
No arrests had been announced in connection with the shooting at the time of the preliminary report.

Cooper was sitting in the driver’s seat of a white 2019 Tesla when the attackers approached.
Police said two vehicles carrying the gunmen pulled alongside Cooper’s car. Individuals inside both vehicles then opened fire, striking the Tesla and Cooper.
The sheer volume of gunfire underscored the intensity of the attack. Investigators initially determined that more than 50 rounds were fired during the incident.
After the shooting, the suspects reportedly fled the gas station in the two vehicles used in the attack.
Police identified those vehicles as a black Acura sedan and a silver Honda Accord. Investigators said the vehicles left the area and traveled toward the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway.
